Virasat is a cultural extravaganza spread across 4-5 days having a history of 21 years. Virasat is a vivid display of talents by Classical and Folk artists both from the country and abroad. The objective is to familiarize these programmes to the local art lovers by making them view and appreciate the arts displayed. Inculcating and improving the aesthetic taste of the audience is one more rationale behind this. Prominent names like Ms. Sonal Mansingh, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Kadri Goplanathan, Dr. Balamuralikrishna, Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Pt. Ajay Chakraborty, Padmabhushan Dr. Padma Subramnyam have performed here and have been awarded the prestigious Alva’s Virasat Award.

With an agricultural background and a bachelor’s degree Ayurvedic medicine, Dr. Mohan Alva has transformed Moodbidri into an educational hub. The Oxford University in Great Britain spotted this talented personality very early and had conferred upon him the “Outstanding Youth Award” in 1980.  Dr. Alva is a staunch believer of the fact that education is the most basic necessity for social progress and with that belief the educational institutions have evolved to world class standards.  Today he has a vast array of institutions in various disciplines which has initiated the process of social transformation. Alva’s Education Foundation®  is synonymous with discipline, humility and fulfillment.

Dr. Mohan Alva is an embodiment of values such as humaneness and selfless service which he has attempted to induce in more than 18,500 youths who are studying under various institutions of Alva’s Education Foundation®. His philanthropic contribution to the society covers a broad spectrum of social issues that require attention. Prominently his concern of those afflicted with HIV, Environment degradation and providing free scholarship to more than 2500 students, every year excelling at academics, Cultural, Sports, Handicapped & financially backward meritorious students etc. He is a tireless champion of the cause of upkeep and spread of Indian classical and traditional music and dance.
